Background

EXO is a public transit agency (PTA) that began operations in June 2017..

EXO’s network includes various park-and-ride lots to allow users greater accessibility to buses and other commuter trains. And it is precisely at these strategic locations that EXO identified the need for smart, self-cleaning public restrooms to provide a simple and effective solution for riders.

The toilets would be used by both bus drivers and customers and would have the following features, among others

– self-cleaning,  anti-vandal, anti-graffiti, pre-fabricated and non-genre

The challenge for Urben Blu

Since the starting conditions were almost all among our main specifications, we took all the necessary steps to demonstrate the different functionalities of our smart toilets.

In addition to the factors listed above, the most important factor for EXO was the solidity of the building. Both in the materials and in the design itself to be as resistant as possible to vandalism, which is very present in the park-and-ride environment.

Result

After the installation of our 4 Urben Blu smart toilets and after a few months of use on the targeted sites, we took the time to review with EXO their level of satisfaction with our product and the answer is very convincing, according to Stéphane Bonin, Project Technician – Civil Infrastructures – EXO:

“I definitely believe that this is the best product on the market for a busy location, such as a train station or a bus terminal. The toilet is very popular with the users and our employees.”

When asked about the robustness and strength of our products, Mr. Bonin was again very eloquent:

“Vandalism is a very present problem for us and we can’t stop it completely.

There is no doubt that without Urben Blu’s anti-vandalism design, the damage would have been much worse with “ordinary” toilets.

“We also had an incident where someone tried to set fire to the toilet paper to burn down the mechanical room, but thanks to Urben Blu’s vandal-proof design, this did not happen, fortunately!
